Line 5 · Xi'an East (西安东)

Xi'an East (西安东站), opened in 2026, is the city's newest rail hub — built for the new Xi'an–Shiyan and Xi'an–Ankang high-speed lines that punch through the Qinling Mountains toward central and southwest China. If your train is on one of these new southern corridors, you'll arrive here, not at Xi'an North. It's east of the centre, on Metro Line 5.

01

What arrives here

Xi'an East serves the new high-speed southern corridors — most notably the Xi'an–Shiyan line (toward Hubei and central China) and the Xi'an–Ankang line (toward Chongqing and the southwest), which cut through the Qinling range. It's designed as a mega-hub, with high-speed tracks running directly under the main waiting hall.

If your ticket says Xi'an East (西安东), you arrive here. Older / northern high-speed services still use Xi'an North. See the railway stations overview.

02

Getting in and out

Metro Line 5 connects Xi'an East to the city (running east–west through the centre). Lines 12 and 15 are planned/future connections. The station is in Baqiao District, east of the centre — allow 40–60 minutes by metro or DiDi to the Bell Tower area. Facilities are brand-new and fully English-signed.

Questions, answered

Is Xi'an East the same as Xi'an North?

No. Xi'an North is the main high-speed hub (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu). Xi'an East, opened 2026, serves the new southern corridors (Shiyan, Ankang). Your ticket states which.

How do I get from Xi'an East to the city centre?

Metro Line 5 runs west into the centre. Allow about 40–60 minutes to the Bell Tower area by metro or DiDi.
